four and a half more reasons to have kids

1:56 p.m. - Monday, Nov. 16, 2009

1. Dependent exemption

2. Child tax credit

3. Head of Household deduction

4. Dependent care credit

4.5. You can accrue all these benefits for the year if you have your baby on December 31

Looks like I know what I'm doing this March...

In case y'all couldn't guess, I'm pretty much joking about all these baby things. I really like babies and want to have them, but not for a very long time.

i'm having children!

6:07 p.m. - Friday, Nov. 13, 2009

So that I can dress them up like this!

OMG WTF! Maybe what I really want is a caterpillar. That is dooce's baby. Dooce is my second favorite mother after Erin, whose baby was a meerkat. Maybe what I really want is a meerkat.

This quarter I've learned that it's very difficult to concentrate on school when 1) you have a new boyfriend and 2) you have a job for after graduation. Good thing school isn't as hard as last year.

Did you know that you can type an omega in gchat? Tillie just taught me.

Speaking of Tillie and her mama, on Wednesday I saw Ira Glass! I volunteered at WBEZ, at an event for leadership circle members, aka people who give $1000 or more to the station every year. Suckers! All I had to do was volunteer for 4 hours to get in, and they had to pay $1000. Is my time worth $250 an hour? Not yet! I got delicious peanut brittle, a glass of wine, and some spring rolls, and I met all my favorite hosts and Iiiiirraaaa! I gave him a big smile. If he hadn't been talking to a younger chap who happened to look just like him I would have dialed up Erin and had Ira leave a message.

If your iPhone won't sync just restart your computer.

Here is a delicious recipe for acorn squash soup (made from an acorn squash generously donated by Ali during my pumpkin party):

  1. Cut the squash in half (difficult! use your guns!), scoop out seeds, and put them cavern-down in a glass dish or on a plate. I actually only did one half. Cover tightly in plastic wrap and microwave for 10 minutes.
  2. In the meantime, saute diced onion (maybe half an onion for half a squash) in a pan with oil until transparent.
  3. When the squash is done cookin' it will be very hot. Unless you're very impatient like me, wait for a second, then scoop out the squash and dump it in the pan with the onions. It should be very easy to scoop.
  4. After a few minutes add a little broth, then start up your immersion blender or transfer into a food processor and blend until smooth. Put it back in the pan.
  5. Add a little more broth, maybe half a cup or a cup (however soupy you like your soup to be) and keep cookin'.
  6. At the end, add salt, pepper, a tiny bit of allspice, and chili powder.

Delish!

Also, one can make white Russians with almond milk just fine.

notes from tax class

2:49 p.m. - Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009

Mike and I should get married and have a kid in the same tax year. Or at least we should have before the 2001 Bush tax reforms. Now the course of our lives won't be distorted by the tax system!

Tonight I am going to volunteer at WBEZ. Ira Glass may actually be there this time. If not, at least there will be food and alcohol!

i am stressed out

9:46 a.m. - Wednesday, Nov. 04, 2009

I have not updated in a while. So, here's what's going on.

  1. I'm really stressed out
  2. I like my boyfriend a whole lot
  3. No, we haven't talked about being boyfriend and girlfriend yet, though he does call me "girlfriend" like how gay people call each other girlfriend, like "girl-FREYND"
  4. There are 60 new interview requests today
  5. I need a mantra to help me get through today

That is all! I can do it!
